Originated in the late 12th century. The ware is characterized by its innocent simplicity and user-orientedness. The unglazed pottery was fired in the Jagama (or snake kilns) of the traditional type. Tanba-Yaki is one of the Old Six Kilns. Approx. 66 potteries engage in pottery production.
